I really like this game, and I would love it if not for some minor issues that accumulate to some moments of frustration and confusion.įirst off, the graphics are nice the cell-shaded approach works well for the anime-like ninja context. This is a stealthy hidden gem of a game, well worth the investment at this price. Taking place over one night, the story is good too: the characters are strong enough to keep the player invested and playing. The updates seem to be smoothing out problems. "Aragami" can be a bit glitchy at times, but there's nothing unforgiveable that really affects the gameplay.

Free updates have opened up additional content too, very nice. The addition of 'shadow' abilities (collectable in game, in the form of scrolls) allows an even greater scope for flexibility. Players can play as they wish: kill everything, kill nothing, it's your choice.

The gameplay is reminiscent of "Tenchu", allowing the player to make full use of their senses, their brain and the gaming environment. The "Two Feathers" soundtrack is also an excellent compliment to the in-game atmosphere. Well done 'Merge Games', "Aragami" is a superb experience, technically flawed in places, but ultimately wonderful.Ī stealth game in a feudal Japanese setting, this cel-shaded environment is gorgeous looking, making really good use of light and shadow.

All in all I don't regret buying this game. I'm not mentioning graphics anywhere as there is nothing special about it and nothing bad about it as well. If I have to name 3 weak point, then these would be sound (feels like talking was recorded on the bottom of some ocean using 10 EUR microphone), monotonous missions (aka "disable light" and "go to next area") and low intellect of enemies (easy to maneuver around them once you play for some time).

Aragami works well on PS4 Pro, but there were a few patches installed before I've started playing -no idea how the game behaved without those. Loading speed is something I named because low budget games are usually very buggy and slow. Upgrades help a lot though - I suggest you invest into them whenever possible (need to collect scrolls for that) as the game gets noticeably more difficult after 5-6 missions. I'm going for "no kills and alarms" walktrough and I'm now on the last level - it wasn't a very easy path to get to level 13th with that approach. Stealth is decent and it can be quite easy to get caught if you're not careful. If I need to name 3 strong qualities of this game, then these would be stealth, upgrades and loading speed. Yes, it's a low budget game, but it doesn't seem like something 1 designer and 2 developers put together during single weekend while being drunk the whole time. Well, I even bought Alekhine's Gun (please don't do it) knowing how bad it is. There are just a few 1st/3rd person stealth games coming out each year and I'm usually buying most of them. Stealth genre has been my love since the 1st Hitman game.
